Dave Pentland has organised the following bus tours.
Trip 1 (Fri 5 August 2022) – Monarto Safari Park
Depart hotel in the morning, head up the South Eastern Freeway via Mount Lofty lookout (time permitting) then onto Monarto Safari Park for a private tour of the park (approx. 1 ˝ - 2 hours), depart the park and head to historic township of Hahndorf (option for lunch), walking tour of Hahndorf at own pace and depart Hahndorf back to town.
Cost of coach hire is $10 per head and cost for entry to Monarto is currently $33 per adult, $24 for concession card holders, $16.50 for zoo members.
Cost therefore for Day 1 trip would be:
$43 per person for general adult
$34 per person for concession card holders (quite a few would fit here, we imagine)
$26.50 per person for zoo members
Depart hotel and head north. Possible tour of RAAF base Edinburgh (see note below) and then on to the historic township of Tanunda. Visit the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company where experiences include chocolate viewing experience, chocolate and wine pairing, ice-creamery cellar door and Benni’s Café.
Again,
cost of coach hire is $10 per person and costs for chocolate and
wine pairing is for 5 wines matched with 5 chocolates which is
$20pp, or they also offer for larger groups a reduced selection of
3 wines matched with 3 chocolates for $12pp. (We will definitely
require numbers to book for this experience.)
Total
cost would therefore be $30 per person for the 5-wine combo or $22
for the 3-wine combo.
If
time permits, proceed to Menglers Lookout for a scenic view of the
entire Barossa region followed by a drive through Seppeltsfield
and finally, return to the hotel in time to freshen up for our
Saturday night dinner.
If
you would like to include a light lunch at the chocolate factory,
pricings are still being confirmed but it will not be more than a
maximum of $25 per person, which would bring the total for the day
to $55 per person or $47 per person, depending on which wine
tasting combo you chose.
All
monies need to paid in full by 01 Jun 2022
to the committee account, details of which are provided at
the bottom of this page and Dave
needs booking numbers by end of Mar 2022.
NB
– security at Defence bases is quite strict these days so, while
difficult to arrange, it is not impossible. Members planning to
travel on this day will need to have some form of ID and the
committee has to make an application to Base Management for this
visit to occur. This application has to include name, DOB,
address, etc, of everyone on the bus so that an individual
temporary pass can be issued on the day. The visit would then
proceed as a guided and narrated tour of the base with a stop at
the fire station for a leg stretch, toilet break, and ten-cent
tour of the station. Scotty is currently looking into these
arrangements and will advise further once numbers are known, and
we can confirm that the trip will actually take place.
Trip 3 (Sun 7 August 2022) - Aviation Museum
The
South Australian Aviation Museum at Port Adelaide has lots of
exhibits including Canberra bomber, Orion, F111 and many more, and
opens at 10.30am. Bus cost for this day would $5 per person and
entry to the museum is $12 for adults or $9 for concession card
holders.
Lunch on this day is entirely dependant on numbers of people who are still around (and functioning after Sat night, lol) but the plan at this stage is for two options:
A BBQ lunch at Rydges (cost of $45 per person because it is a weekend and they would need to bring in extra staff to do it), or
150 meters from Rydges is
the Elephant and Castle pub which does a Beef and Reef every
Sunday from 12pm at a cost of $18.50 per person.
All monies need to paid in full by 01 Jul 2021 to the committee account, details of which are provided at the bottom of this page and Dave needs booking numbers by end of Mar 2021.
